Our karate style has developed from Shotokan Karate, one of
the more popular karate styles in the UK. Karate originated
in Okinawa, a Japanese prefecture, and was created as a form
of self-defence. Master Funakoshi Gichin developed Shotokan
Karate, where in addition to the self-defence he also promoted
a healthier living both physically and mentally.
Tokon is the Japanese for "Fighting Spirit" and this
is the ethos we hope to promote within the club. We do not promote
aggression but rather encourage a "never give up"
attitude, both within and outside of our training
By the time our students attain their
black belt they have shown us personality characteristics we
expect from all our yudansha to uphold, such as a respectful
attitude, an indomitable spirit, self-discipline and self-respect.
