Self Defence
Karate was created and
developed for self defence. Our primary aim at Tokonkai
Karate is to teach our students those self-defence skills.
We develop these from the most basic level, teaching
awareness and stressing that they should try to avoid
confrontation wherever possible. Karate is never to
be used for instigating violence, only in the prevention
of harm to one’s self or family.
Physical Fitness
Training with us at Tokonkai
Karate-do will help you if you wish to increase the
level of your physical fitness. Although lessons are
not specifically built around a fitness regime the exercises
we do are great for strengthening and toning your body,
as well as building on flexibility.
Self-Confidence and Self
Discipline.
Incorporated into our training
is a striving towards positive personal attributes such
as discipline, self control, patience, confidence and
respect. The grading system is a great tool for encouraging
goal-driven achievements and improving self-confidence;
whilst the higher grades are a reminder of how one should
always keep striving to improve. At Tokonkai we encourage
the junior grades to look up to the higher grades; and
we expect the senior grades to look after and set an
example to the lower grades. Respect for one another,
and ourselves, is an important part of our ethos.
Fun Activity
As well as the positive
physical and mental attributes it is important that
our students have fun whilst training. Karate is an
enjoyable activity where you can meet like-minded people.
Mixed lessons for families
If you want to spend some
quality time with your child and learn a new art whilst
also gaining important life skills then we offer several
open lessons in a week, where people with a wide range
of ages and abilities all train together. Come along
and try us out, everyone is entitled to 2 free trial
lessons, where you will be able to decide whether karate
is right for you. |
